George Estey is a senior advisor and chairman of the firm’s Canadian advisory business. Throughout his extensive career, Mr. Estey has advised on numerous mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and other general advisory assignments.

Significant transactions include advising the independent committee of the board of BCE on the proposed sale of the company to a consortium led by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Fund; AT&T’s sale of its 34% stake in Rogers Wireless; Manulife Financial’s acquisition of John Hancock; CAE on the sale of its Marine Controls business to L3 Communications; and Forzani Group on its sale to Canadian Tire.

He also was adisor to Crescent Point on its acquisition of Ute Energy Upstream Holdings; and Primaris REIT on its defense against a hostile takeover and ultimate sale to H&R REIT, KingSett Capital, Ontario Pension Board and RioCan REIT.

Prior to joining Evercore, Mr. Estey was managing director and co-head of Greenhill Canada, formerly Beaufort Partners, an independent Canadian advisory firm he co-founded. Previously, he’d served as chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs Canada and later held held various investment banking advisory roles in New York, primarily related to Goldman Sachs’ Canadian business. Earlier in his career, he was a general management consultant at McKinsey & Co.

Mr. Estey earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of New Brunswick and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
