Bernhard Sakmann is a senior managing director in the firm’s strategic advisory business, with a focus on life sciences tools and diagnostics, and medical devices.
Notable transactions Dr. Sakmann has advised on include Immucor on its sale to Werfen; Isoplexis on its sale to Berkeley Lights; GE on the spin of GE Healthcare; GE Healthcare on its acquisition of BK Medical; Royal Philips on its acquisitions of BioTelemetry and Capsule Technologies; Decipher Biosciences on its sale to Veracyte; SHINE Medical Technologies on its acquisition of Phoenix; ArcherDx on its sale to Invitae; Abbott on its acquisitions of St. Jude Medical and Alere; Brooks Automation on its acquisitions of Genewiz and BioStorage Technologies; and Terumo on its acquisitions of Sequent Medical and Bolton Medical.
Prior to joining Evercore, Dr. Sakmann spent over a decade in healthcare investment banking and in management consulting with Lehman Brothers, Citigroup and Oliver Wyman in New York and London.
Dr. Sakmann received a Doctorate in Medicine from Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany, a B.M. BCh. from Oxford University, and a B.A. and an M.A. in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University.
