Marcus Thompson is a senior managing director and head of the Utilities, Infrastructure and Transport group in Europe and Asia.

Mr. Thompson has over 25 years of global M&A and capital markets experience, having worked in London, New York, Hong Kong and Australia, and has advised on numerous landmark energy and infrastructure transactions in Europe and Asia.

Notable transactions include IIF/JP Morgan Asset Management’s public takeover of Falck Renewables, Milan (>10,000MW); DIF Capital Partners, London on acquiring a 51% stake of IB Vogt (c 40,000MW solar); Jardine Matheson’s public takeover of Jardine Strategic; CLP Holdings (owner of EnergyAustralia) on acquiring ExxonMobil’s Hong Kong electricity business (c. 7,000MW) (Hong Kong Deal of the Year, FinanceAsia); YTL Power International on the acquisition of PowerSeraya (3,100MW) from Temasek (Singapore Deal of the Year); and Anglian Water takeover defence.

Mr. Thompson began his investment banking career at Salomon Brothers, London (rebranded Citigroup) in the 1990s and has been part of the same senior investment banking team at Evercore for over 20 years. Previously, he was a corporate solicitor at Linklaters, London.

Mr. Thompson serves as treasurer of the Cambridge University Lawn Tennis Club (Alumni).

He has an accounting degree and a law degree (first-class honours) from Australia and a Masters in Law from Cambridge University, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar.
