Jonathan Chappell

Jonathan Chappell is a senior managing director in the Transportation Team, providing coverage of surface transportation and marine transportation equities.

In 2025, Mr. Chappell earned his third consecutive No. 1 ranking in the Extel (previously Institutional Investor) All-America Research poll in the shipping sector, where he has ranked in the top 3 since 2016. He also earned runner-up in the airfreight & surface transportation category from 2023 to 2025.

Prior to joining Evercore ISI, Mr. Chappell was an executive director at J.P. Morgan covering marine transportation and offshore services stocks, and an associate on the surface transportation research team.

Mr. Chappell has also been consistently recognized for stock-picking and estimates accuracy over the years. Thomson Reuters named him the top earnings estimator for the marine industry in 2016 and 2017 as well as No. 3 in stock selection for the sector in 2015. In addition, he was ranked top analyst for stock selection in the Wall Street Journal’s 2012 Best on the Street survey for industrial transportation.

Mr. Chappell earned a B.S. summa cum laude in management-finance from Binghamton University and is a chartered financial analyst.
