John Startin
John Startin is a senior managing director in Evercore’s strategic advisory practice focused on global metals, materials & mining.
During his career, Mr. Startin has covered base, bulk and precious miners and industrial metals processors. Select M&A assignments include advising U.S. Steel on its sale to Nippon Steel; Arconic on its sale to Apollo; Lithium Americas on various matters, including its JV with General Motors; and Novelis on its acquisition of Aleris. Notable restructuring advisory assignments include Murray Energy in chapter 11 and Dominion Diamonds in CCAA. Mr. Startin’s financing experience includes IPOs, follow-on offerings, out of court restructuring and acquisition financings. He serves as chairman of the firm’s Equity Commitment Committee.
Previously, Mr. Startin was a managing director, head of metals & mining in the Americas, and a member of the M&A group at Goldman Sachs.
Mr. Startin read philosophy, politics and economics at The Queen’s College, Oxford, and was awarded a B.A. and an M.A. by the University of Oxford. He earned his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
