Francis Stapleton is a managing director in the firm’s strategic advisory practice and focuses on M&A, shareholder activism and raid defense.

Mr. Stapleton’s transaction experience at Evercore includes representing Arconic in its sale to Apollo; BorgWarner in its separation of PHINIA; Cimarex in its combination with Cabot; Delek in its proxy fight against CVR and Carl Icahn; Envision in its defense against Starboard and sale to KKR; and Medivation in its defense against Sanofi and sale to Pfizer.

Prior to Evercore, he was an attorney at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he specialized in M&A, securities transactions and corporate governance. Notable representations include United Technologies in its sale of Sikorsky to Lockheed Martin, STERIS in its acquisition of Synergy Health and GTECH in its acquisition of IGT.

Mr. Stapleton began his career as a law clerk to Vice Chancellor Donald Parsons on the Delaware Court of Chancery.

He graduated cum laude from Georgetown University and magna cum laude from Duke University Law School.
