David Ying is a senior managing director and founder of the firm’s Debt Advisory & Restructuring Group.

His primary focus is advising companies, boards of directors and owners on complex situations where a combination of company-specific challenges, volatile capital markets conditions and high degrees of leverage require his knowledge of restructuring, capital markets and M&A. Notable clients have included GM, Ford, Chrysler, LyondellBasell, EFH, CIT, Ally Financial, GE, Chesapeake Energy and Frontier Communications.

Prior to joining Evercore in 2005, he led restructuring groups at Drexel Burnham in the 1980s and DLJ in the 1990s, and was at the forefront of many of the innovations in leveraged finance and restructurings, including exchange offers, exit consents, out-of-court rescue financings, prepackaged bankruptcies, debtor in possession financings and Section 363 sales.

He earned a B.S. from MIT and an MBA from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
