Mark H. Burton

Mark Burton is a Senior Advisor of the firm’s corporate advisory business. Prior to Evercore, Mr. Burton was a Vice Chairman and a senior member of the Financial Institutions Group at Barclays Capital. Prior to the acquisition of the U.S. operations of Lehman Brothers, Mr. Burton was a Vice Chairman at Lehman Brothers, and was a member of the firm’s Strategic Committee, Senior Client Council and Business Development Committee. Over the course of his career as an investment banker, Mr. Burton has advised on a number of the most significant transactions in the financial services sector. These include being part of the team that advised ABN AMRO in its sale to The Royal Bank of Scotland; Golden West in its sale to Wachovia; Charter One in its sale to Citizens Financial; numerous transactions for Sovereign Bancorp, including its sale to Banco Santander; Riggs National in its sale to PNC; GreenPoint in its sale to North Fork; Banknorth in its sale to Toronto-Dominio, and Huntington Bancshares in its acquisition of Sky Financial. Mr. Burton began his career at Lehman Brothers in 1981, becoming a Managing Director and Partner of the firm in 1990 and a Vice Chairman in 2007. Mr. Burton graduated from Dartmouth College in 1981. He is currently a board member of Newcastle Investment Holdings, a private partnership, and is a Trustee for the United States Biathlon Foundation.
