Senior Managing Director
Donald Monson is a Senior Managing Director in the firm’s corporate advisory business. Mr. Monson focuses on advising companies in the Internet and Digital Media sectors.
Mr. Monson was most recently a Managing Director and Head of International Internet and Digital Media Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan. Mr. Monson was based in London at J.P. Morgan from 2002 to 2013 and was Head of Media Investment Banking for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to investment banking, Mr. Monson worked at Siemens Venture Capital in Munich and Santa Clara investing in technology and new media companies. During his 15 years in the technology industry, Mr. Monson has extensive experience advising global Internet and media companies and private equity firms across the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Notable recent M&A transactions include Hellman & Friedman’s acquisition of Scout Group from Deutsche Telekom, Apax Partners’ acquisition of Trader Media Group from GMG, Naver Corp’s spin-off of its gaming business NHN Entertainment, LivingSocial’s sale of Ticket Monster to Groupon, Ahold’s acquisition of bol.com and Tradus’ sale to Naspers. Mr. Monson has also advised on numerous capital market transactions including IPOs for Cheetah Mobile, Jumei, Forgame, Tinkoff Credit, Manchester United and Mail.ru, equity follow-on offerings for VIPShop and Schibsted and debt offerings for Naspers, Ctrip, Soufun and Baidu.
Don holds a BA in Molecular Biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania and a MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
